No One Understands

Increasing Illumination

None are deserving of Christ, yet He is worthy of the world. But flesh and blood cannot reveal this, only God the Father who is in heaven. So great is the darkness of human depravity, that men can literally stand before the glory of God in the face of Christ and not understand. It is a maddening blindness when one can stare at the noonday sun in complete darkness. This encounter is a sad commentary on the human condition. Men behold the brilliance of God the Son blindly. It is a dreadful kind of blindness, being blind to itself and yet boasting of sight. Their vision is veiled by a strange paradox of optical obsession. Here the blind live by sight. They fixate on fern seeds and miss elephants. They stargaze at noon. This scene features the all too familiar case: when seeing is not believing. Painful is the lesson: the Son is shining brilliantly, but no one understands.
