Obstacles of Prayer

Lifting Our Hearts to God

The glory of prayer is seen in its unique ability to make much of God while seeking to satisfy our needs. In its very exercise, prayer wonderfully captures the chief end of man, it glorifies God and gladdens man in Him. In this session, we consider ten common obstacles to prayer. These are tendencies within that rob us of a right motivation to pray: unbelief, cynicism, self-sufficiency, false humility, fatalism, immaturity, irresponsibility, hypocrisy, legalism, and sin. Applying the gospel to our approach to prayer is the key antidote. Focusing on our relationship to God through Christ is vital. Realizing that prayer is a blood-bought privilege reorients our hearts to overcome these obstacles and devotionally delight in prayer.
