The events recorded in this chapter revolutionize reality. They complete Christianity and punctuate its promise. Without them our faith would be futile, and the world would be without hope. With them, everything changes. Several profound realities of Christ have already been attested in Matthew. But the events in this chapter are those that distinctly set apart the person and work of Christ to give us good news—the gospel. Here we see that in Christ sin has been atoned, the curse has been broken, and death has been defeated. The crucified Christ has been raised from the grave—the only risen hope for fallen man. In dawning glory, we see the genesis of the gospel, invoking worship for all who believe and testifying against all unbelief.
