Having expressed his greetings and stated his thesis, Paul officially begins the body of his letter. The tone has unmistakably changed. The theme of righteous has not. Here, the urgency and utter enthusiasm to make the gospel known is made clear. Why is God’s gospel-righteousness so necessary? Because human sin has rendered every human being corrupt and culpable to the righteous condemnation of God. Why gospel-righteousness? In a word, just-righteousness. But even this is revealed that all might turn from unrighteousness to Christ who alone can rescue us from the wrath of God.
