Christ presents precious and powerful depictions of His affection for the church. None are more lovely and vivid than the brilliant metaphor portraying her as a beautiful bride. She is dearly beloved—beyond what she naturally sees or senses. She is not defined by herself or those around her. Not even her duties and deeds define who she is. She is something far more wonderful than she presently knows. She is pursued by Christ and preserved for Him. She is beloved as a bride—the bride of Christ.
