Watching with Wisdom

With piercing clarity, Christ’s return is sure. But indeterminate and unknowable is its timing. These two truths conspire to compel the disciple of Christ to a life of responsible readiness. Christ will return not on our timetable but His. His timing is not set to our expectations. So our expectations must be rightly calibrated in active anticipation. Certainty calls forth faithfulness. Readiness requires patient and persistent preparedness. Both demand wisdom. Jesus has already emphasized this basic point with several illustrations. Now, with a surprising and memorable parable, He goes still deeper and illustrates the vital need of watching with wisdom.
