Redemption is solely a free gift from God. It is conceived in the grace of God’s electing, prevailing love alone. It is accomplished by the grace of Christ’s substitutionary death and resurrection alone. It is applied by the grace of the Holy Spirit’s sovereign, regenerating work alone. It is received by the grace of justifying faith alone. The grace of redemption is a profound and precious truth rediscovered in the Protestant Reformation. Represented by the phrase sola gratia, this key theological conviction proclaims that sinners are saved apart from works by grace alone.
