Who could conceive of questioning God’s grace? Only a misconception of divine election. But apart from God’s free choice of sinners, grace is not grace. And apart from grace, there is no real gospel or security in salvation. This passage takes the vindication of God’s Word a step further. God has not broken His promises to Israel. Rather certain promises were misconstrued. Salvation has never been based on a sinner’s natural pedigree or performance. This, Paul advances in defense of God in His electing grace.
