Glorious Grief
The scene is filled with tragedy. Israel is indicted. The Lord is lamenting. Unspeakable sadness expresses the final words of Jesus to Jerusalem. It is an astonishing conclusion to a remarkable rebellion. But the picture reveals more than grief. The Lord of love is revealed in this rejection. It is a climax to Christ’s claims. He came as Israel’s King, offering the kingdom, but she would not acknowledge Him. Now, with amazement, attention is directed to Him who weeps. Only His is a divine sorrow. So the scene presents more than tragedy. It exhibits a glorious grief — revealing Jesus as the divine Messiah.
