Relating to God as Father
Jesus has taught us that all our religion is to be from the heart before God with Him as our reward (6:1-18). He has taught us to treasure God that our heart may be with Him in heaven (6:19-24) and to trust in Him because He alone is a treasure worth trusting in with all of life (6:25-34). He has taught us that treasuring God rightly connects to how we relate to brothers and others (7:1-6). Now He directs our attention to the most important relationship of all, the one relationship that determines all others. Relating to God as Father has been a recurring principle in His sermon, but here it reaches new heights. Here we see that how we relate to God determines who we are. His words have more to do with salvation than prayer.
