Secure in the Spirit
God Himself secures our salvation, from acquisition to application—from no condemnation to no separation. Redemption is richly trinitarian: the Father provides, the Son propitiates, and the Spirit procures personally. In the afterglow of meditating on the gospel of the Holy Spirit, Paul directs attention to its blessings. To be sure, all who are Christ’s are to live as Christ’s. This is the Spirit’s leading. But living as a child of God is grounded in being a child of God. The wonder of God’s love being poured out into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, adopting us as His very own children, is one of the loveliest portrayals of the Spirit’s work found anywhere in Scripture. Here, all who are in Christ are presented with one of the most profound and penetrating grounds of joy and security.
