The Glory Prefigured
The grand wonder of Immanuel, meaning “God with us,” was not a New Testament invention. Before the foundation of the world, God had purposed to enter it—personally. The dwelling place of God was to be with man. But sin had made a separation between God and man, as it always does. God’s holiness cannot mix with sin’s heinousness. Still God, in many times and in many places, communicated His intended purposes to dwell with man. Various figures, types, and shadows were used to illustrate how. And all these find their ultimate fulfillment in Christ. This message makes much of Christ through one particular shadow of His glory. It stands as one of the most profound symbols in the Old Testament. Powerfully does it illustrate the prefigured glory of Christ, a long expected glory relevant for our own day.
