Christ is not a figure whose destiny is death. To Him belong all power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing (Revelation 5:12)! Unutterable majesty is alone fitting for the One whom none is greater. Our hope rests not in a humiliated but an exalted Christ. While the resurrection served as the foundational first step of Christ’s vindicating exaltation, His ascension is indispensable to its completion. Though it is a dimension of the life and the work of Jesus that is often lacking in the heart of the church today, the ascension is a foundational article of the Christian faith—and for good reason. Christ ascended is key to His exaltation. It is key to our understanding of Christ and the gospel. It is key to our worldview and devotion. Christ ascended is key to God’s glory and man’s joy.
