Calling on Christ - Part 2
Having exposed the wrong way to get right with God, Paul now emphasizes the only right way. A Christless zeal for the Law, for God, and for righteousness is to absolutely no avail for salvation. Nothing less than a true and perfect righteousness is necessary to be saved from the just wrath of God against us because of our sins. Christ is the end of all self-attempts at righteous. The only right way to be right with God is by faith in the sinless Christ. Such faith is here explained as a calling on Christ—a desperate crying out, confessing, repenting, believing, and trusting in Christ crucified and risen. Though an offense to many, He is the righteous God who has done all that is necessary for salvation to everyone who calls on Him.
