Light for Life: Exploring God-breathed Glory

God is worthy of all praise in all circumstances. Such is the overarching point of the largest and mostly widely used book in the Bible. The “Book of Praises” or Psalms call God’s covenant people to worship, directing and assisting them in songs of prayer and praise expressed in the full range of human experience and hope, for God’s glory and their good. They lift us and teach us to praise God in and for His worth, His works, and His word. Deeply personal and yet strongly corporate, the Psalms inspire and instruct us concerning faith and devotion in a penetrating and remarkably relatable manner. Together they represent, as Calvin says, an “anatomy of all the parts of the soul,” enabling and engaging the fullness of the image of God in express relationship to God. Uniquely, they celebrate with special attention to God’s deliverance through God’s king and the hope of future blessing and peace in His kingdom. Thus is the divinely inspired Hebrew hymnbook.
