Christ-likeness in a Hostile World
Peter now concludes the present section on relationships (2:11-3:7). He does so by addressing the church, calling everyone in it to be characterized by harmony, sympathy, humility, compassion, and brotherly and sisterly love. He further argues that true believers are to be a blessing to the world. In both contexts, though the church be imperfect and the world hostile, believers are called to Christ-likeness. Peter concludes this section with a stern warning that Christ-likeness is not the believer’s prerogative to pursue when convenient. It is God’s consistent expectation for all who are truly His.
