Like the Son in Shepherding
The Good Shepherd is training His undershepherds. The preciousness of His every last lamb is His predominant concern in this lesson. Christ highlights how important His little ones are to God. God’s children are precious to Him. To illustrate, Jesus presents a parable. It is about God’s concern that none of His little ones be despised and lost. In the figures of sheep and shepherds He casts His church. His people are the sheep, but the lesson is learned in the service of the shepherd. While the central feature of the parable points to the responsibility of appointed leaders, the principle still stands for the church as a whole. For the sake of His name and His sheep, His disciples must be like the Son in shepherding.
